11th Birthday SPLASH!

McWane Science Center’s 11th birthday will be celebrated with a SPLASH on July 11, 2009. Begin the day with the grand opening of the Shark & Ray Touch Tank where you can see and touch the creatures for the first time. Then, visitors can head out on the plaza for live stage shows, beach music and a shell and shark tooth hunt in the giant sand box and enjoy huge the slide. Then, come inside and meet SpongeBob SquarePants and Sid the Science Kid in person!

Grand Opening of the Shark & Ray Touch Tank

Be the first to see the sharks and rays swimming at McWane! Learn all about these fascinating creatures and you can even touch them too!

Sid the Science Kid Workshop
Location: Classrooms 303 & 304, Level 3
Time: 10 am – 4 pm
Alabama Public Television presents the popular new PBS Kids character Sid the Science Kid during McWane Science Center's 11th Birthday Splash. APT's Education staff will lead kids through fun science activities and Sid will make a special appearance to have his photo made with the kids. Be sure to bring your camera!

Meet everyone’s favorite sea sponge who is traveling all the way from Bikini Bottom to celebrate McWane Science Center’s 11th Birthday! The popular Nickelodeon character will be on the second floor of the museum just waiting to meet his fans! Be sure to bring your camera!

Sandbox Shell & Shark Tooth Hunt
Time: 10 am – 4 pm, Plaza
Dig into to the giant sand box provided by Wade Sand & Gravel for an exciting adventure uncovering different kinds of shells and be on the lookout for shark teeth too!

Wave Slide
Time: 10 am – 4 pm
Location: Plaza
Cowabunga dude! This is one massive wave! Have a totally tubular time sliding down this slide that is over twenty feet tall! *Note: Not a water slide*

FREE Birthday Cake
Provided by Publix Supermarket

Captain D’s Coloring Booth
