Foodie -- Smart Cafe (part-time up to 20 hours per week)
McWane Science Center counts on the Café Foodie to support the daily operations of the café and related special events by assisting with the preparation, presentation, sales and cleanliness of the department while providing excellent customer service.

Math Specialist (up to 28 hours per week)
The Math Specialist will coordinate, plan and implement teacher workshops, consultations, classroom outreach programs and fieldtrip activities with schools participating in the “If I Had a Hammer Program.” This program targets 5th grades in selected schools that are affiliated with AMSTI (Alabama Math, Science and Technology) and are designated as a Title I school. This staff member must have proven proficiency in math, math education or related field and experience coupled with good working knowledge of hands-on learning, inquiry-based education. The Math Specialist will lead teachers in the implementation of math activities provided in the “If I Had a Hammer” curriculum as well as lead each class in a scale model build of a pre-fab house at McWane Science Center. While no construction skills are needed, the ability to do actual construction of a pre-fab house is required. The Math Specialist will also be responsible for data collection and evaluation of activities related to this program. In addition to leading the “If I Had a Hammer” program, the Math specialist will participate in other education duties such as teaching camps and classes, operating the High Cycle, interpretation at the Shark and Ray Touch Tank and working with other museum staff to highlight and develop math pathways in the exhibits and in other programming. This position ends in August 2015 and is funded by several sources.

Educator (up to 28 hours per week)
The Educator is responsible for engaging visitors in programs, classes, demonstrations and activities in an enthusiastic, accurate and interactive manner. The Educator will also develop and implement home school labs and summer and holiday camp programming that emphasizes hands-on science learning that campers enjoy and parents value. This position supports the Outreach Program and also assists with the feeding, cleaning and handling of our educational animal collection.

Birthday Party Host (3 weekends per month)
McWane Science Center counts on the Birthday Party Host to provide excellent customer service to all guests while hosting birthday parties and supporting the operations of the birthday party program and the Education department. Accountabilities and major duties include: hosting birthday parties including the set-up and break-down of party rooms; facilitating on-site client contact and coordination during parties; presenting birthday parties programs; providing and maintaining excellent customer service to birthday guests as well as all visitors; preparing for upcoming parties by organizing supplies, counting inventory and calling parents, if needed, and covering Touch Tank, High Cycle, Exhibit Interpretation and other public programs.

Technical Support Specialist (Full-Time)
McWane Science Center counts on the Technical Support Specialist to assist end users with software, hardware, peripherals and other technical support needs. Accountabilities and major duties: troubleshoot hardware problems and provide end user with necessary direction to solve most problems. This includes, but is not limited to, diagnosis of desktop computers, printers, tablets or smartphones; troubleshoot software problems and provide end user with necessary direction to solve most problems. This includes, but is not limited to, Microsoft operating systems, Microsoft Office products, virus protection, Apple operating systems or other software packages the end user requires; assist with set-up and deployment of new software and hardware; assist with maintaining intranet installation; assist with maintaining signage hardware and software; and other duties as assigned.
