"Wings Over Wheeler"
Members-Only Family Bird Walk
Date:  Monday January 16, 2012
Meeting time:  8:00 am

Join us on our second Family Bird Walk led by members of Birmingham Audubon Society, local bird watching organization and partner with McWane Science Center. Travel to Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge in Decatur, AL. Wheeler is the hotspot to view and identify wintering waterfowl and some 285 species of birds. Waterfowl that have migrated here congregate in this diverse habitat, and our group will be able to access some of the backwaters not seen by the general public!

This full day trip will meet and carpool to the refuge. Our first stop will be Wheeler Visitor Center and wildlife observation building to get familiar with some of the birds we might see when we go out behind locked gates.  Canada Geese, Snow Geese, Sandhill Cranes, Buffleheads, Coots, Mallards, White Pelicans and many other species of ducks and woodland birds may be seen throughout the day. Birmingham Audubon will provide binoculars for your use. Scopes will be set up for closer views of birds that are a little further out.  A parent or grandparent must accompany the child on this outing.

Space is limited so sign up soon! Reserve a spot by calling the Birmingham Audubon Office at 205-714-8228 by January 10, 2012.

Details of the trip, including what to bring and wear, will be emailed to you after you sign up.
