Development Department
Member Services Specialist Full-time position responsible for assisting with membership processing; database management; phone/direct mail membership sales; member events; surveys and customized member service. Applicant must have High School diploma, experience in office support/sales and possess PC knowledge with basic typing skills; experience with Raiser’s Edge software preferred. Exceptional customer service and the ability to work some nights and holidays as well as one Saturday per month required. Physical qualifications include, but are not limited to, ability to use a computer; visual/hearing acuity; and ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time.
Education Department
Birthday Party Host Part-time position (up to 19 hours per week) responsible for assisting with the implementation of weekend birthday parties at the museum. Applicant must have high school diploma, experience working with children and the ability to work 3 weekends per month. Excellent customer service and communication skills a must! Physical qualifications include, but are not limited to, hearing/visual acuity; ability to climbs stairs; ability to push/pull/carry objects; and ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time.
Early Childhood Educator Full-time position responsible for the development and implementation of programs and activities to support McWane Science Center’s early childhood education curriculum. Applicant must have bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, science or related field; experience working with children under the age of six; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interpret and explain science concepts; comfort in leading presentations (experience in presentation of informal science programs preferred); and the availability to work some nights, weekends and holidays. Physical qualifications include, but are not limited to, ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time; visual/hearing acuity; and the ability to stoop/crouch/lift and pull objects.
Manager of Volunteers Full-time position responsible for managing the volunteer and internship program and acting as the Education Manager on Duty every other weekend. This position will also assist with floor activities and exhibit interpretation as well as program development. Applicant must have bachelor’s degree in science, education or related field; excellent customer service and communication skills; demonstrated ability to work independently and possess the ability to interpret and communicate science concepts. Experience in the presentation of informal science programs preferred. Applicant must also have a valid AL driver’s license and minimum liability insurance as required by state law. Physical qualifications include, but are not limited to, sitting/standing for extended periods of time; hearing/visual acuity; and exposure to chemicals/fumes.
FOOD SERVICE
Cook Part-time position responsible for supporting the daily kitchen operations and catering functions within the museum. One year food service experience, excellent customer service and flexible schedule required. Physical qualifications include, but are not limited to, visual/hearing acuity; ability to stand for extended periods of time; and fine motor coordination.
OPERATIONS
Cashier -- Part-Time Part-time (up to 30 hours per week) position available in McWane Science Center's retail store, Really Cool Stuff. Applicant must have exceptional customer service, high school diploma and minimum 1-year cash-handling and computer experience; merchandising experience a plus. Availability to work every other weekend required. Physical qualifications include, but are not limited to, hearing/visual acuity; ability to stand for extended periods of time; ability to utilize a computer; and ability to lift/pull up to 50 lbs. Must be at least 18 years of age to apply.
