 ScienceQuest

Visitors to ScienceQuest can discover the science of fun! ScienceQuest contains more than 9,000 square feet of awesome interactive exhibits. Experiment with the building blocks of science, recline on a bed of nails, launch a tennis ball high into the air, build your own roller coaster, play a laser harp and experience more than 50 other amazing exhibits.  Just Mice Size

Specially designed to encourage curious minds five years old and under, Just Mice Size is a fantasy environment ten times larger than usual. Crayons form a picket fence. Is that a ten-foot-tall milk carton? That soda bottle is big enough to be a bus! Put on a plastic apron and play in our water table!

 World of Water Aquariums

WOW! World of Water is filled with interactive exhibits and amazing habitat tanks of aquatic creatures from around the world, including Alabama. Visitors to World of Water can make waves on an eroding shoreline, investigate salt marsh creatures up close at “Ocean’s Edge,” and explore the awesome story of water and its importance to life on our planet. In our underwater research lab “Deep Discovery,” visitors can plunge below the surface and discover coastal and offshore habitats of more than 50 species of saltwater life.  Challenger Learning Center of Alabama

Challenger Learning Center Alabama is a technology-packed learning environment that immerses your crew in an awesome space mission simulation. Merging the power of imagination with the excitement of discovery, your crew becomes engineers and scientists as they work in teams to solve problems and complete the mission. Established as one of more than 30 centers nationwide created in memory of the Space Shuttle Challenger Flight 51-L crew, McWane Science Center’s Challenger Learning Center Alabama launches group missions for all ages.  RUSHTON SCIENCE THEATER

McWane Science Center’s 108-seat Rushton Science Theater is a state-of-the-art multimedia science learning environment capable of hosting any type of program imaginable. Home to our largest format programs like Combustion, Lightning Strikes!, and Body of Knowledge, the Rushton Science Theater is frequent home to extraordinary fires and huge bolts of lightning.

The fully-wired environment is also ideally suited to the several special dramatic presentations McWane Science Center gives throughout the year.  Visitors have had the opportunity to meet many famous scientists at the Rushton Theater, including Marie Curie, Nikola Tesla, and even the beloved Mrs. Frizzle.  NOAA's Science on a Sphere

NOAA's Science on a Sphere® is a global display system that uses computers and video projectors to display planetary data onto a GIANT animated globe. Animated images of atmospheric storms, climate change, and ocean temperature can be shown on the sphere which is used to explain complex environmental processes, in a way that is simultaneously intuitive and captivating. The cutting edge technology landed Science On A Sphere on TIME Magazine’s Best Inventions 2006 List! Check out Science On A Sphere program times on our events calendar. During your visit be sure to catch one of our public programs on Science On A Sphere offered throughout the day or if you are visiting with a school group you can book a private program.

WETLAND PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT

Our photgraphy collection is a must see exhibit. Local artist Beth Maynor Young uses photography to document unprotected environments of the South.

Wild Earth Safari Simulator

Take a ride on the wild side! Riders are in full control, navigating the vehicle through the stunning landscapes of Africa on a quest for that "perfect picture." Riders take on the role of driver and photographer inside this truck-themed capsule to experience this fully interactive photo safari!

Ride The MaxFlight Motion Simulator!

The Simulator features both MaxFlight’s Virtual Combat Flight Program as well as MaxFlight’s Rollercoaster Program. The amazing Flight Combat Program allows riders to fly an F/A-18 jet and fire at enemy targets, while the Rollercoaster takes enthusiasts on a futuristic voyage through an awesome space asteroid. Riders will soar, spiral, plunge, twist, and shout as they experience genuine G-forces.

Admission to the Simulator is $5 for one person and $8 for two.
