IMAX Dome Theater

McWane Science Center’s John W. Woods IMAX Dome Theater brings movie-going to the 21st Century.  The IMAX large-format screen is like no other film experience.  As big as your imagination, the screen towers five stories and surrounds you with 12,000 watts of uncompressed digital sound.  All IMAX films last 40 – 50 minutes—long enough to blow you away!

McWane Science Center is the first theater in Alabama to offer MoPix® Rear-Window viewing and Descriptive Video Systems.  The system provides visually-impaired and hard of hearing guests with descriptive narration of film content and captions directly to those audience members requiring assistance, without disturbing other guests.

The DVS system uses writes headsets, which can be used anywhere inside the theater, to provide narrated information about key visual elements in the film.  Descriptions of actions, settings, scene changes, and other visual characteristics are inserted during the natural pauses in the dialogue or narration.  Both systems are available at no additional costs to any hard of hearing or visually-impaired guests of McWane Science Center.

Please note that all show times are subject to change, cancellation, or sellout without notice. For safety reasons no strollers are allowed inside the IMAX® Dome Theater. There is no late seating for films. Please plan to arrive no later than 20 minutes before your chosen show time.

For large groups and weekday showings, the IMAX® Dome Theater strongly recommends making advance reservations for all shows.
