A one-of-a-kind exhibit and labspace in the world, the Newsroom Studio brings the tools and technology of real news in your life. Divided into six sections, the Newsroom Studio is full of activities that let you be a reporter and get hands-on with the latest computer technology. With 19 Pentium-4 computers, 900 square feet of space, three projection screens, three satellites, four televisions, two plasma-screens and six miles of audio-visual cable in the walls and ceilings, the Newsroom Studio is the ultimate multimedia environment for creative learning.

Quiz Show DISCIPLINE: Language Arts, Technology & Current Events Students compete in teams to answer news questions projected on the Newsroom Studio’s giant screens. Competition heats up as the four teams rack their brains and try to buzz in first!
What’s News in Science? DISCIPLINE: Language Arts & Technology GRADES: 6-8
Challenge your students to work together to create a six-page newspaper in 45 minutes. It can be done in this journalism crash course, covering newsroom responsibilities, desktop publishing, headline writing, image selection and editing. Students will get a great sense of current events in science and a powerful lesson in teamwork.

Broadcast News DISCIPLINE: Language Arts & Technology GRADES: 6-8
Explore broadcast news by researching topics and writing stories for a television newscast. Teachers choose the topic while students research the topic and write the news stories. Students will use judgment, filter fact from fiction, decide which stories to include and come to McWane Science Center to assume the role of a media professional and produce a final newscast. Techno Geeks DISCIPLINE: Physical Science Program is 90 minutes long. Can you imagine life without advancements in technology? Students will participate in a robotics activity that will bring out their inner techno geek. LEGO Mindstorms is an ideal hands-on tool for helping students learn a variety of topics including math, science, computers and design technology.
