COVID and Public Health: What You Need to Know – Ellen Eaton, MD

In the midst of a global pandemic, everyone has questions about the spread of COVID-19. What’s the situation in Alabama? How safe is a return to in-person schooling? What risks are there with influenza season imminent? Are prisons at high risk for spreading the coronavirus? Dr. Ellen Eaton of UAB’s Infectious Diseases division has answers to these questions and more.

Ellen F. Eaton, MD, MSPH is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases at UAB. She received a BS in Chemistry at Vanderbilt University and her medical degree at UAB before an Internal Medicine Residency and Chief Residency at Stanford Universtiy Hospital and Clinics. She was on faculty at Duke Hospital as an Assistant Professor of Medicine before returning to UAB for her Infectious Diseases Fellowship in 2013, and she completed her Masters of Science in Public Health in 2017 with an emphasis in Healthcare Organization and Policy. Her research and patient care focus on the intersection of infectious diseases and substance use disorders. Since March, she has served the city of Birmingham, Jefferson County Incident Command and local schools in policy and best practice for COVID infection prevention.
