Home School Day

Is your child a home school student looking for a fun and educational way to spend the day? Plan a trip to McWane Science Center on Home School Day (first Monday of each month)! There will be special programs, live science demonstrations, give-aways and a discounted ticket price: FREE for home school parents, $7 for kids, and $6 for accompanying adults.

10:30 am — Critter Crossing (Itty Bitty Magic City – Classroom 202)
Journey back to the 1800’s and join us for the exciting story of the Brooklyn Bridge! Can you build a bridge strong enough to hold elephants and tigers?

11:00 am — Block the Blizzard (Classroom 301)
Frigid Frank is on a trek across the Artic Circle! Design, build and test a shelter that will protect him and his crew from the chilly Arctic winds.

11:30 am — Save the Day (Workshop)
When disaster strikes, your ingenuity will be tested. Get ready to engineer assistance for some… unusual characters.

12:30 pm — Chemical Reaction Lava Lamp (Classroom 302)
Join us for this “far out” chemical engineering activity will make you feel all groovy!

12:30 pm — Lightning Strikes (Rushton Theatre)
Join us for a shocking experience as we explore the science of behind electricity.

1:00 pm — Save the Day (Workshop)
When disaster strikes, your ingenuity will be tested. Get ready to engineer assistance for some… unusual characters.

1:30 pm — Gulf Feeding (World of Water)
Observe as our Aquarists feed our Gulf Tank fish.

3:00 pm — Filtration Station (Workshop)
Can you purify polluted water and make it drinkable again? Try your hand at this environmental engineering challenge!

4:00 pm — Oil Spill Challenge (Classroom 302)
Design and test ways to cleanup a small-scale oil spill!
