Science Cafe

October 21, 2014 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join other science geeks (and science novices) for an exciting presentation, lively discussion and a little science trivia at the Birmingham Science Cafe, every third Tuesday at John’s City Diner in downtown Birmingham (112 Richard Arrington Jr Blvd N). All Science Cafes are free to the public and no science background is required. The fun begins at 6 pm with science trivia. Then continues with the guest speaker at 6:30 pm.

SCIENCE TOPIC: Attention! Changing the Way Your Brain Processes Information

“Be prepared” is the scouting motto. But it applies to your brain, too! We will talk about how your brain prepares itself to weed out irrelevant information to get to the good stuff. We will also talk about my work examining how differences in these attention mechanisms relate to differences in performance on vision tasks.

GUEST SPEAKER: Kristina Visscher, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Neurobiology, UAB
