Don’t forget to get lost in the Corny Maze and be wowed by our newest addition to our incredible exhibit collection, Light & Illusion, all on level 3 this Fall.
You can also see our two newest IMAX movie, Oceans narrated by Kate Winslet in the John W. Woods IMAX® Dome Theater. Our 280 seats sit under a 5 story, 79ft. diameter tilted, domed screen fills your entire field of vision and the audio surrounds you to create a truly immersive sight and sound film experience.
Put on your thinking caps, and spark your imagination! Be a part of the McWane maker movement and spend the day crafting, building, inventing, designing, tinkering, and engineering. Learn a new skill and showcase your creativity with other local makers.
Did you graduate from Kindergarten in May? You are invited to the Itty Bitty Magic City Promotion Party. Graduates will receive a certificate, graduation photo, and a special play time in Itty Bitty before McWane opens. Then grab a scavenger hunt and check out the McWane Makers public programs and activities outside of Itty Bitty Magic City.

Teens and Tech is an after hours event at McWane Science Center for students 6th-12th grade. Each Teens and Tech night focuses on a single topic that is related to science, technology, engineering and/or mathematics.

For over a year, McWane Science Center has been partnered with KultureCity to become a Sensory Inclusive organization to better serve our visitors with sensory processing needs. With this partnership, McWane Science Center will foster an inclusive environment for visitors with sensory processing needs by providing tools for a better experience in our center. Join us Sunday, September 16th as we celebrate this partnership with awesome education programming and sensory inclusive IMAX screenings all day with volume at 75% normal volume. Join other science geeks (and science novices) for an exciting presentation, lively discussion and a little science trivia at the Birmingham SCI Cafe, every third Tuesday at John’s City Diner in downtown Birmingham (112 Richard Arrington Jr Blvd N). All SCI Cafes are free to the public and no science background is required. The fun begins at 6 pm with science trivia, then continues with the guest speaker at 6:30 pm.

As a special offer to our visitors this year, on the 20th of every month, we will THROW BACK the prices, meaning admission to McWane will be the same price as what it was when we opened 20 years ago in 1998. Museum Day is an annual celebration of boundless curiosity hosted by Smithsonian magazine. Participating museums and cultural institutions across the country provide free entry to anyone presenting a Museum Day ticket. The Museum Day ticket provides free admission for two people.
