Membership FAQs

McWane Science Center’s Member Services is always happy to answer any questions that you may have about your membership to the science center.  Feel free to email us or call 205.714.8318 to speak with a representative.

When Can I Start My Membership?

Your membership is active immediately upon receipt of payment. If you join or renew in person at McWane Science Center, you will receive all your benefits and a membership card immediately. If you join or renew by mail, telephone or online, there is some processing time in order to send your membership packet to you.  However, you can always call us and opt to pick up your membership at the Ticketing Counter or we can verify your membership via email.

How Long Does It Take My Membership To Be Mailed?

Most times during the year, about a week and a half.  However, during high-business times like holidays, summer and Spring Break Week, it may take a little longer.

What Do I Do If I Lost My Membership Card?

If you are visiting and don’t have your card, you can present a valid Photo ID to the Ticketing Counter and we can look up your membership for confirmation. To have a replacement membership card processed and mailed, there is a $5 charge.

How Often Can I Use My Membership? How Often Can I Visit?

You and those listed on your membership can visit McWane Science Center as often as you like.
However, we are closed:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Easter Sunday
  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Eve
  • Christmas
Where is the Member Express line?

The Member Express line is open during peak times to accommodate crowds. Look for the Member Check-In signs when you enter the lobby.  

How Can I Tell If There Will Be Large Crowds That Will Affect My Visit?

Curious about visiting school and camp group attendance volume on the day of your visit? To help plan your visit, McWane Science Center offers a Member Hotline at 205.714.8484 with a weekly recording about group attendance volume for each day that week as well as other helpful membership information.

Can Other Families Or Guests With Me Use My Membership Card?

Your McWane Science Center membership is non-transferable and gives free admission to the two named adults and number of children listed on your membership card only. Free admission to other adults or children with your membership is only available with our Add-A-Guest upgrade.

What Is The ASTC And What Are The Reciprocal Benefits?

The ASTC is the Association of Science-Technology Centers, a group of currently more than 350 independent science centers and museums worldwide that participate in the reciprocal Passport Program. This program encourages Members to visit other science centers and museums when traveling. The reciprocal benefits vary by each museum/center. We recommend you call a museum before your visit to ensure you know what the specific benefits they offer for reciprocal Members.

What If I Forgot My Membership Card When I’m Visiting Another City With An ASTC Museum?

Contact Member Services by email or calling 205.714-8318, Monday through Friday, and we will send an email verification of your membership for you to print out and or display to the visiting museum Ticketing Counter. On a weekend, call 205.714.8414 and a Reservation staff member can verify your membership for the other museum.
