About our Volunteer Program

Are you interested in science and giving back to your community? Consider joining our volunteer program! McWane
Science Center volunteers help support McWane’s mission of sparking wonder and curiosity about our world through
hands-on science experiences. From greeting visitors and answering questions to presenting demonstrations in our
Adventure Hall to behind-the-scenes maintenance of our aquarium and habitat areas, our volunteers enrich the visitor
experience the moment they walk through the doors. As a McWane Science Center volunteer, you will gain valuable
experience, develop and utilize your skills, and meet interesting people.

You don’t have to be a scientist to volunteer at McWane! You just need enthusiasm and a desire to learn. Our
volunteers come from all walks of life, ages, and educational backgrounds, but all have a passion for life-long
learning. McWane Science Center also extends valuable volunteer benefits including:

What our visitors are saying about McWane Science Center

"We live approximately an hour away but frequently travel to Birmingham for doctor visits. We have thoroughly enjoyed having the McWane Center membership because it always gives us something fun and educational to do on what would often be very boring days! Whether it's for an hour or several hours, I always know that it will be time well spent!"

"I love science and I want to foster a love for science and nature in my young daughter."

"We visited for the first time last weekend, but really look forward to spending more time there.  We just love to do fun things together, and watching our two year old see and do things for the first time."
