The McWane Science Center Teen Volunteer Program offers year-round volunteer opportunities for teens who are interested in giving back, learning something new, and being part of an incredible team of young people. Teen Volunteers present hands-on science activities and demonstrations at interpretive stations and exhibits throughout the science center. You can also find Teen Volunteers assisting with Summer and Winter Camps where they act as role models and mentors, guiding young campers in STEM-related activities. In addition to inspiring lifelong love of learning and positively impacting the lives of our youth, Teen Volunteers gain valuable experience in public speaking, work ethic, customer service, and leadership.
Our School Year Teen Program is a great first step for teens, 14 and older, who want to enter our volunteer program.
This program runs from September to May with a rolling admission process. Applications are reviewed, interviews are
set, and orientations are scheduled monthly. School Year Teens are expected to volunteer a minimum of 8 hours a month for at least 6 months.
If you love talking to people, have a passion for science, and are looking for a meaningful way to spend your summer,
our McWane Science Center Summer Teen Program is the right place for you! The Summer Teen Program is open
to students completing 8th-12th grades. Summer Teen Volunteers are chosen based on a completed application, a
resumé, two letters of recommendation, and an interview.
Applications for the 2019 Summer Teen Volunteer Program will open in January 2019.
Weekend orientations occur monthly from September to January. If you are selected as a School Year Teen
Volunteer, you will receive an email with instructions to sign up for an orientation session. Orientation includes a tour
of the science center, information about policies and procedures, and customer service and activity training.
Volunteers will also receive on-the-job-training in their assigned area.
