SAFETY FIRST!

Masks

All staff, volunteers and visitors aged three (3) and older are required to wear masks.

Social Distancing

We are following social distancing guidelines throughout the facility. Visitor groups must maintain a 6-foot distance from other groups. Children interacting on the exhibits must maintain a 6-foot distance from each other.

Sanitizing High-Touch Areas

We have implemented enhanced cleaning protocols throughout the property and, in addition, disinfect frequently touched surfaces throughout the day.

Hand Hygiene

Hand sanitizer stations are available throughout the facility and visitors are encouraged to use them. Our restrooms are cleaned and restocked with soap, and hand sanitizer several times daily.

Limited Occupancy

We have limited the number of visitors allowed on premises at one time to half during this period of enhanced safety protocols. Our electronic attendance system tracks entry and exits so we are able to monitor attendance in real time.

IMAX® Dome Theater

McWane Science Center has limited its theater capacity to 25% and requires all travel groups to sit at least three (3) seats apart to ensure social distancing is maintaining during your moviegoing experience.

McWane Cares

McWane employees circulate throughout the premises to ensure social distancing measures and other safety protocols are followed. If you have any questions or concerns about safety or other matters, any McWane employee is happy to help.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, all visitors aged three (3) or older are required to wear masks.

High touch surfaces are disinfected frequently throughout the day as part of a robust cleaning and disinfecting system that is based on best practices recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and other safety experts. The entire facility is deep-cleaned nightly.

Are all of you exhibits open?

In following the science to ensure visitor safety, we have made the decision that a phased reopening is the safest way to go. For that reason, a few of our permanent exhibits will remain temporarily closed out of an abundance of caution. Our very popular Itty Bitty Magic City for toddlers and preschoolers was closed on initial reopening and followed only after careful consideration and procedural adjustments could be made to ensure the maximum possible safety of our staff and guests. Other exhibits have been modified to allow guests to enjoy them safely, and our brand new and original exhibit Brickology was updated prior to its premiere in 2021 to allow for the safest possible guest experience.

Is Itty Bitty Magic City open?

Itty Bitty Magic City reopened with new cleaning and social distancing protocols in place on August 5.

Is the IMAX Theater open?

The newly renovated IMAX Dome Theater re-opened on Friday, December 18th. We invite you to come and enjoy the unparalleled experience of IMAX with Laser at the McWane Science Center!

When will things go "back to normal?"

Our phased reopening follows the science of safety and we cannot anticipate when all exhibits will be open. The COVID-19 pandemic has reminded us of the importance of taking extra steps to safeguard our visitors’ health and safety. We are constantly creating new ways to help children safely interact with exhibits that engage them with the wonders of science.
